Today I should receive my new 200mm 2.8 prime. I sold my 24-105 and some bits and pieces to get a 75mm 1.8 prime (which I have found to be excellent) and the 200mm. I must say I was dissapointed with the 24-105, It was just too slow and needed good light. It was also a bit slow to focus and a little soft. The colour was OK but not at all punchy like the 85mm. I guess the 24-105b was an OK lens but not great at anything. I had purchased it to be my do everything (as if that is ever the case!) lens for my trips to CM and travel through Thailand. But I think I am just a prime tragic. So I shall have to lugg all my gear about and miss lots of shots whilst changing lenses: oh well!
Also none of my lenses have IS. As I am pushing myself to use a tripod far more often than I used to this may not be the disaster that I have been warned about. There is no doubt I have got very sloppy about holding the camera properly with the IS feature of the 24-105 being available. Bad habits?
Yesterday I got a Kenko 1.4 multiplier and a set of Kenko extender tubes to go with the 200. On its way is a Hoya CPL - so I am all kitted out and eager to give this baby a field trial.
Does anyone else have this lens? What do you think of it?
